After the failure of The Expendables 3, it looks like Sylvester Stallone has tapped out all the potential the series has on the big screen. So, now he’s taking the format to television at Fox.
The network is developing a potential event series, which would be produced by Stallone and the films’ Avi Lerner. NCIS veteran Shane Brennan would be the showrunner, with Greg Coolidge (Ride Along) and Kirk Ward as writers.
According to Deadline, which first reported the news, the project would be produced by Lionsgate’s TV studios, with CBS TV Studios and Shane Brennan Productions. Kevin King of Stallone’s Rogue Marble, is also producing.
Indiewire notes that there is still no cast set, but they are looking at TV action superstars.
Perhaps Chuck Norris, who appeared in the films and starred on TV in Walker Texas Ranger, could reprise his role in the series. The A-Team’s Mr. T should also be considered.
While the previous Expendables movies were big hits, Expendables 3 was a big disappointment last year. The film only grossed $39 million in North America, but made up for it in foreign markets, where it made $166.8 million. The first film was released in 2010, with the second following in 2012.
