The Voice is back and the search is on to find the best vocal talent in America. This season features the return of Christina Aguilera and Pharrell Williams along with Blake Shelton and Adam Levine.

This round of the competition features the battle rounds, which take place following the blind auditions. At this point, the teams are competing against each other for a spot to advance in the competition. Two artists from each team will sing the same song as a duet and it will be up to the coach to decide who advances. This round also features the “steal” element. Each coach will have the chance to steal an artist that is eliminated.

These rounds also feature celebrity mentors that come together to help out each of the coaches. This season Blake Shelton is working with “All About That Bass” singer Meghan Trainor. Team Christina will be working with Nick Jonas, Adam Levine has brought on board Ellie Goulding and rounding out the celebrity mentors is music legend, Lionel Richie.

10. Ameera Delandro vs. Sonic Battle- Masterpiece

Ameera Delandro and Sonic Battle, the ladies represented Team Christina, brought one of the most unique battles to The Voice. They combine their vocal ranges with rapping skills. Both ladies sounded like they could top the charts if this single was released today. The decision came down to Aguilera and she chose to move Sonic to the knockout rounds.

9. Ashley Morgan vs. Mia Z-Put Down The Gun

This round of the battles featured many unique song choices and this battle between Ashley Morgan and Mia Z, representing Team Pharrell, was an excellent example of how outside of the box this show is willing to go. Their vocal styles were unique and stood out. In the end, Pharrell advanced Mia Z to the knockout rounds. Without waiting a second, Levine pushed his steal button for Ashley Morgan and she became the next member of Team Adam.

8. Cody Wickline vs. Matt Snook Battle- How Country Feels

Let the battle for top male vocalists on team Blake kick off. They performed the current chart-topping hit “How Country Feels” from Randy Houser. The audience was into the performance and all of the coaches gave positive comments to both artists. In the end, Shelton advanced Wickline to the knockout rounds.

7. Hannah Kirby vs. Sarah Potenza-Gimme Shelter

These two powerhouse vocalists took "Gimmie Shelter" representing Team Blake. The performance felt like a throwback to a time of classic rock and both showcased what they could vocally and showed off their commanding stage presence. Sarah Potenza was chosen by Shelton to advance to the knockout rounds. Both Pharrell and Adam pushed their buttons to steal Kirby and she decided to join Team Pharrell.

6. Travis Ewing vs. Anthony Riley-Get Ready

Ewing and Riley representing Team Pharrell brought their soul and sexy vocal ranges to the battle rounds with this performance of “Get Ready.” It was clear how these artists ended up on Team Pharrell with this classic performance. Following discussion amongst all of the coaches, Williams moved Ewing forward. Before Riley could leave the stage he was stolen and became a member of Team Blake.

5. Blaze Johnson vs. Michael Leier- Rude

Both male vocalists representing Team Adam took on this top chart topping single. Leier brought his signature rock vocals to the indie; reggae track and Johnson really made the song his own thing. The performance was a stand out with energy and passion. In the end Adam chose to advance Johnson to the next round.

4. Gabriel vs. Joe – For The First Time

Gabriel, who is known as being a true folk artist, and Joe who is a more pop artist both represented Team Christina in the battle rounds. Joe became the next member of Team Christina to advance.

3. Meghan Linsey vs. Paul Pfau-Don’t Let Me Down

In a battle that will not soon be forgotten, Megan Linsey and Paul Pfau were both representing Team Pharrell and gave a beautiful performance. They matched each other vocally and elevated the song. Pfau was chosen to advance on Team Pharrell. Before Linsey could even start to thank her coach, she was in a three-way steal with the other coaches. She ended up joining Team Blake, she had originally opened for Shelton many years ago.

2. James McNeiece vs. Tonya Boyd-Cannon –Pretty Young Thing

In the soul matchup of the night, James McNeiece went up against Tonya Boyd-Cannon. These two artists would seem like an odd match up on paper but they both compliment each other in a way that took this performance to the next level. This was an amazing matchup for Team Adam. It was a hard decision but Cannon advanced to represent Team Adam in the knockout rounds.

1. Brian Johnson vs. Joshua Davis-Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door

Brian Johnson and Joshua Davis representing Team Blake had the stand out battle of the night. It was subtle, emotional and honest. The final decision came down to Shelton and he decided to move Johnson to the next round. Levine quickly stole Davis after the coaches all pushed their buttons for him.
