The Golden State Warriors have clinched the best record in the NBA heading into the playoffs, but coach Steve Kerr doesn't plan on resting his starters down the stretch.
In his first year as a coach, Kerr has led the Warriors to 60+ wins for the first time in franchise history. The team has dominated the NBA much in part to the MVP-caliber season of guard Stephen Curry. The San Jose Mercury News reports that Kerr hasn't considered giving his starters less minutes because he wants to keep the players in rhythm. Kerr added that he isn't worried about the threat of injury because he can't predict when it could happen.
"We could rest guys three or four games, and they might get hurt the next game because they're not in rhythm," Kerr said. "So it's hard to find the right balance, but that's what we're trying to do."
Kerr noted that his goal is to make sure the team is still playing well and improving as the playoffs approach. Kerr previously rested his starters against the Denver Nuggets and was met with backlash from fans who bought tickets. As the postseason draws nearer, other teams will likely rest their starters. Even Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James is considering a rest before the end of the regular season.
With the regular season ending on April 15, the Warriors are looking to make a big impact when the playoffs begin.
