Leonard Nimoy will be remembered during a funeral today, but unfortunately, one person won’t be in attendance. William Shatner, his good friend and co-star on the Star Trek series, as well as multiple films, expressed regret on Twitter that he would miss Nimoy’s funeral due to a previous commitment.
The Huffington Post reported that the two men became close friends over the years, but due to timing, Shatner wouldn’t be able to attend Nimoy’s funeral, which is being held on Sunday. Shatner was in Florida on Saturday for a Red Cross Ball and he explained that he wouldn’t be able to get “back in time” for the funeral.
In a series of tweets, he admitted he felt really bad about having to miss his “dearest” friend’s burial. He also suggested during his tweets on Saturday that they could use Sunday to celebrate the long life of the man we know as Dr. Spock.
Following Nimoy’s death on Friday, Shatner made a statement of remembrance of his friend, saying “I loved him like a brother. We will all miss his humor, his talent, and his capacity to love.”
