Sum 41 frontman and ex-husband to Avril Lavigne, Deryck Whibley is opening up about his personal struggles and explained that after a year of heavy drinking, he is lucky to be alive.

A month ago, Whibley posted on his personal blog that he had been in the hospital for the past month because of his rockstar lifestyle. He thanked fans for their ongoing support during his time of recovery.

He admitted within his post that his situation could have been a lot worse, even life threatening. "I could have had way more health problems than I had, but my liver is fine! Everything shut down before any more damage could happen. To walk out of there alive, without cirrhosis or needing transplants, you know, it could have been worse," explained Whibely.

The New York Post reported that Whibely is doing better personally and physically.

“But it’s unfortunate that it had to even come to that. However, now I’m feeling better than I’ve ever felt. I’m healthier. I’m in the best shape of my life. I’m more productive. Well, I was always really productive, but I was just good at being a functional alcoholic," detailed the Sum 41 frontman.
