It didn’t take long for comedian Aziz Ansari to find a new TV gig. Just weeks after NBC’s Parks and Recreation finished its run, Ansari has landed at Netflix.
The currently untitled series was created by Ansari and Parks co-executive producer Alan Yang. Parks co-creator Mike Schur is also joining as an executive producer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plot is being kept under wraps, but the casting is already set. Entertainment Weekly notes that it will be filmed in New York.
H. Jon Benjamin (Archer, Bob’s Burgers), Lena Waithe (The Comeback) and Eric Wareheim (Tim and Eric Awesome Show) will star. Noel Wells, who had a short run on Saturday Night Live, and Bob’s Burgers writer Kelvin Yu will also appear.
This is another Universal Television production, as Schur and Dan Goor’s Fremulon banner is based. 3 Arts is co-producing. Schur and Goor also created Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a Universal production that airs on Fox.
Ansari has already starred in two stand-up specials for Netflix. He is best known for his role as Tom Haverford on Parks.
This is the second big comedy acquisition for Netflix this week. On Monday, John Stamos confirmed that the Full House sequel Fuller House will be on Netflix.
