Billy Ray Cyrus will be returning to TV on CMT with a new and original scripted show for the country music network.
Rolling Stone reported that CMT's annual upfront presentation was made earlier this morning, explained that Cyrus would be starring in Still the King. He will be playing an Elvis-loving charlatan preacher. The show is expected to hit the airwaves in early 2016.
Cyrus spoke to Rolling Stone Country and opened up about his role on the show. "I play a dysfunctional Elvis impersonator who ends up lying his way into a church out of desperation, to help pay his child support," explained Cyrus.
That last time Cyrus was featured on a scripted show was Hannah Montana, which featured his daughter Miley Cyrus in the title role.
Along with original programming, CMT will be releasing a new reality TV show featuring country star Kellie Pickler and her songwriter husband Kyle Jacobs, Variety added.
