Dakota Fanning is known for her roles as a child star and although she’s continued to work as a young adult, she’s aware she’s still seen as a kid.
Fanning, 21, opened up to Nylon about her image and said she’s “made my peace” with it although it does make her want to “rip my hair out” sometimes.
“I’ve made my peace with the fact that there will be some people who, for the rest of my life, will believe I’m, like, nine years old,” she said. “I have this joke that I’m literally going to be 35, married, and pregnant and people are still going to say, ‘Oh my god, you grew up so fast! I can’t believe it!’”
She has taken on more mature roles in films like War of the Worlds, The Secret Life of Bees and The Runaways, but that doesn’t change peoples’ minds.
“But I’m OK with it. I know who I am,” she said.
Fanning, who’s a student at New York University part time, went on to deny the misconceptions that she’s an “old soul.”
“I’ve found that anybody who takes what they’re doing seriously or seems to be a caring person gets called an old soul. And it’s not a negative thing to say, but it’s also not 100 percent accurate,” she said, admitting she likes to be “silly” like any other girl her age.
