After months of testimony and more than 100 witnesses called by the prosecution, the defense team for Aaron Hernandez called just three witnesses before resting its case on Monday.

The Boston Globe reported that the former New England Patriots tight end’s lawyers told Judge E. Susan Garsh that they rested their case just before 3 p.m. Rebuttal witnesses to the three people the defense put on the stand will be called next.

Hernandez is on trial for the murder of 27-year-old, semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd in June 2013.

CNN noted that prosecutors also believe Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz were involved in the murder. They are being tried separately.

Hernandez and his co-defendants have plead not guilty to the slaying.

Despite the outcome of this murder trial, the ex-NFL star’s legal troubles are far from over. In fact, Hernandez will stand trial for double murder at the conclusion of this trial.

In that case, he is accused of shooting two men outside a Boston nightclub after one of the men allegedly bumped into and exchanged words with him inside the club.
