Dr. Oz was grilled by Today’s Matt Lauer on Friday, responding to last week’s criticism from fellow doctors about medical advice he doles out on his show.

As we previously reported, Dr. Oz vowed to fight back against the 10 doctors, none of whom are connected to Columbia, asking that the university kick him out of the faculty. He’s currently vice chairman of Columbia’s surgery department and a cardiothoracic surgeon.

Oz told Lauer on Today he knows he can overcome this bump in the road, saying “the show will survive it."

He was clear about being “very proud” of his show, though Lauer did grill him with questions like "Does the doctor in you ever cringe at what the talk show host in you is saying?"

In a letter this group of doctors penned, they call him a “quack and a fake and a charlatan,” but Oz told Lauer what he says on the show is meant to reach a broad audience.

"What I'm trying to do is help people understand their bodies better," he said.
