Britt McHenry, an ESPN reporter, has been suspended by the network after a video of her throwing insults at a towing company employee surfaced.
The video was first posted on LiveLeak today and is from a security camera at the towing company on April 5. It shows McHenry making fun of a woman behind the counter, starting out by saying, “I’m in the news sweetheart, I will f**king sue this place.”
She continues, “So I could be a college dropout and do the same thing?” and adds, “I’m on television and you’re in a f**king trailer, honey.” Lastly, she tells the woman to lose weight.
The video was picked up on Deadspin. Later, ARLNow pointed out that McHenry tweeted that her car was towed from a parking lot on April 6. When the site asked her to clarify at the time, she said she was illegally parked at a restaurant. McHenry later deleted the first tweet.
McHenry later tweeted an apology, writing, “In an intense and stressful moment, I allowed my emotions to get the best of me and said some insulting and regrettable things. As frustrated as I was, I should always choose to be respectful and take the high road. I am so sorry for my actions and will learn from this mistake.”
ESPN quickly responded, but only suspended her for a week.
