The worldwide leader in sports sued the global communications and technology leader on Monday for breach of contract.
CNBC noted that the lawsuit filed in New York Supreme Court, said that ESPN is seeking damages from Verizon for a package in which FiOS customers can choose a smaller bundle of cable channels every month.
USA Today reported that Verizon’s new “Custom TV” plan offers consumers slimmer packages that are genre-specific packages such as sports, kids or news for $55 a month.
With past subscriptions customers would pay for a large group of channels that included ESPN and its sister stations.
"ESPN is at the forefront of embracing innovative ways to deliver high-quality content and value to consumers on multiple platforms, but that must be done in compliance with our agreements,” ESPN said in a statement. “We simply ask that Verizon abide by the terms of our contracts."
Last week, FOX and NBC made a similar claim that Verizon was in violation of its contractual agreements.
Verizon, however, maintained that it still in compliance with those agreements.
