Former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson may have lost his job for punching a producer, but he will not have to face criminal charges for his actions.

North Yorkshire Police determined that there is “no need for further action” after they completed their investigation, reports BBC News. In addition, the producer, Oisin Tymon, said he did not want Clarkson charged. Still, police had to complete a routine investigation.

“Now that all the interviews are complete, we have properly established that there is no need for further police action,” North Yorkshire Police told the BBC.

Clarkson was initially suspended on March 10 for the incident, which the BBC called a “fracas,” with Tymon. Then on March 25, the BBC decided to not renew Clarkson’s contract.

Still, Clarkson has his fans and they did not want him to leave the show. A Change.org petition was signed by 1.05 million fans, who are calling for the BBC to re-hire Clarkson.

Clarkson is largely responsible for turning Top Gear into a worldwide phenomenon with over 350 million viewers. The BBC is going to keep the show going, but there is no word on if co-stars James May and Richard Hammond will return or not.
