Even though we still don’t know how Fox’s first made-for-TV musical will turn out, the network is already working on a second one. Fox is developing a remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show as a TV movie.
Unlike the upcoming version of Grease, Fox does not plan on doing this as a live broadcast, which should make casting much easier. According to Entertainment Weekly, the network also wants to stick with Jim Sharman and Richard O’Brien’s original 1973 play so they don’t have to hire a writer.
However, they do have to pick a director and choreographer. Those jobs will both be taken by High School Musical’s Kenny Ortega.
The special will be produced by Lou Adler, who produced the iconic 1975 film with Tim curry, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick. Gail Berman is also producing, with Ortega as executive producer.
Rocky Horror is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and is still being distributed in theaters for midnight screenings.
As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Fox had actually tried to do this in 2002, when the play was turning 30, but that never happened.
Grease, which will star Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens, is airing on Jan. 31, 2016.
Now, just imagine this song on broadcast television:
