Despite running through its freshman season with two episodes a night, Fox still has enough confidence in Will Forte’s The Last Man on Earth that it has been renewed. The hilarious new show will be back for a second season next year.
The series stars Forte as Phil Miller, who was, obviously, the last man on earth after some unexplained incident wiped away the human population. As the series has gone on though, he has learned that he’s not the only person left. Kristen Schaal, January Jones and Mel Rodriguez co-star.
“We knew we had something special with The Last Man on Earth. It’s one of those rare shows that continues to add depth and dimension to its unique premise, week after week,” Fox Entertainment President David Madden. “We are so thrilled that this incredibly bold, original and inventive series has been embraced by both fans and critics, and we cannot wait to see where the creative genius and inspired vision of Will, Phil and Chris take us in Season Two.”
Forte created the show, which counts The LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller as executive producers. Like the first season, it is likely that the second will only include 13 episodes as the trio said at SXSW last month that they would not do the show if they had to do 22 or more episodes a season.
Two more episodes of Last Man air this Sunday at 9 p.m. You can check out our most recent recaps here.
Fox has also renewed Gotham, Empire, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and New Girl for next season.
