Garth Brooks retired from music in 2000 and he has no regrets about it. The country singer chose his daughters over fame and now that they’re grown up, he’s back on the road.
Brooks has been touring with his wife, Trisha Yearwood, in support of his album Man Against Machine and it’s proven to be highly successful.
But when it comes to walking away from the spotlight, Brooks told People, “People said, 'How could you walk away from music?' But being a dad – there's nothing that can touch that."
Brooks has three daughters; Taylor, 22, August, 20, and Allie, 18, with his first wife, Sandy Mahl.
When he first had his girls move in with him in Oklahoma after the divorce from Mahl, he admitted, “I'd just stare at them. I knew their sweet faces and their dispositions. But I didn't know who they were."
He added over time, he was “grateful” that the other parents just saw him as a “as a dad just like them” at soccer games.
With his daughters all graduated from high school and out of the house, Brooks says, “I pray more than I ever have in my life," but touring with Yearwood helps. “Thank God I'm with the love of my life. That's why I know I'm right where I'm supposed to be."
