E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic has been the target of criticism of recent months, with even her body getting attacked. Now, she’s responding to the critics who think that she is too thin.
In a new interview with People Magazine, Rancic said that the attention that her body is getting has “gotten to of hand,” which is why she finally decided to speak out. Her body became the focus of attention at the Golden Globes in January, when she appeared very thin.
“Some people were saying, 'The cancer is probably back,'” Rancic told People, referring to her 2011 fight with breast cancer. “And they were accusing me of every eating disorder. I thought to myself, 'God, if someone really thought I had an eating disorder, what a horrible way to approach it.’”
Rancic says she is completely healthy now, but is still taking cancer-suppressing medication, which has an effect on her body. She said she grew “concerned” because she was eating, but not gaining weight. Her doctor said that weight loss was one of the side-effects of the drug.
“It's really hurtful,” Rancic told People of the attention and mounting criticism. “I'm sorry that some people think I'm disgustingly skinny, as they put it, but there's nothing I can do. I'm lucky that I even have the type of cancer that reacts to the medicine.”
Rancic did admit that she feels she is too thin. “I look in the mirror and it's hard for me. I am really thin. I want to look fit and beautiful and sexy, and I can't,” she said.
Rancic and her husband Bill share a son, Duke, who is 2 1/2. You can check out our February interview with Bill here.
