Ahead of the NFL releasing the 2015 schedule Tuesday, reports have surfaced that the Green Bay Packers will retire Brett Favre’s jersey in a ceremony during the nationally-televised Thanksgiving Day game.
Although the schedule won’t officially be announced until 8:00 p.m., several potential matchups and dates have already been leaked.
One of the biggest stories, as the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported, is that sources have said Favre’s jersey will be retired when the Packers face the division opponent Chicago Bears that night.
The Thanksgiving game will be the first played at Lambeau Field since 1923.
Favre's jersey will be placed on the facade inside the iconic stadium. ESPN noted that his No. 4 will officially be retired on July 18 when he is inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame.
The former quarterback played in the league for 20 years, but spent most of his time in Green Bay. However, a long love affair ended in 2007 when the team decided to go with the then-unproven Aaron Rodgers and Favre, who many thought was retiring, went to the New York Jets. The following season, "The Gunslinger" really ticked off Wisconsin’s passionate fans by signing with the rival Minnesota Vikings.
It seems that time really does heal all wounds though. In both his jersey retirement and induction ceremony, fans will celebrate all that he accomplished during his tenure in Green Bay, which includes several passing records, 11 Pro Bowls and one Super Bowl victory.
