A Twitter challenge to live on food stamps has been picked up by Gwyneth Paltrow, who will be living on a small budget for a week.

According to the Huffington Post, Paltrow will live on the same budget as families who are part of the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program. The budget will be $29 dollars per week and she accepted the challenge on Twitter from Mario Batali, who is a celebrity chef and a member of the NYC Food Bank board.

US Weekly reported that Batali also put the challenge up to Debbie Harry and Sting. Paltrow took to her Twitter account to show her followers what she bought with $29, which included eggs, tortillas, whole grain brown rice, and a head of garlic.

The challenge, which carries the hashtag #FoodBankNYCChallenege, is an attempt to raise awareness of what families go through on a small budget every week. In order to do the challenge, participants are not allowed to use food that was given by others or anything that was already purchased.

Paltrow herself nominated Roy Choi, a chef based in Los Angeles.
