The Jacksonville Jaguars have restructured tight end Marcedes Lewis’s contract.
Lewis was entering the final year of his contract with the Jaguars. The restructured contract is not an extension. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Lewis was scheduled to earn $6.65 million this season and with a cap figure of $8.2 million, but the renegotiated deal will probably open up some cap space for the Jaguars, according to NFL.com. The renegotiated contract means that Lewis won’t be traded to another team.
"I'm pumped to be a part of something exciting and be a big part of it." Lewis told the Florida Times-Union.
Lewis has been with the Jaguars since 2006. He is a good blocker, but hasn’t been a threat as a receiver. In nine seasons he has caught more than 50 passes just twice. In his career Lewis has 315 receptions for 3,789 yards and 27 touchdowns, according to ESPN. He has had to deal with injuries the last two seasons.
The Jaguars recently signed tight end Julius Thomas, defensive end Jared Odrick, and center Stefen Wisniewski.
