Projected No. 1 NFL Draft pick Jameis Winston has finally given an explanation for the bizarre incident in which he was accused of stealing crab legs from a Publix store last year.

During an ESPN special titled Draft Academy, the quarterback met with Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh and quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch to discuss his off-the-field issues.

As previously reported, the former Florida State athlete was suspended by the baseball team last April for allegedly lifting $32.72 worth of groceries from the store.

The coaches told Winston not to leave that incident out of the conversation. He then gave his side of the story and said that a Publix employee told him he could have free food whenever he wanted.

“When I went to get crab legs, I did the same thing and he just gave them to me and I walked out. And someone from inside the store had told the security that I didn’t pay for them and that’s how the whole thing started."

Many draft experts believe that Winston will be selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the first pick in this year’s draft, despite the issues he was tied in college. If he is not taken by the Bucs, the Tennessee Titans could use the second overall pick to snatch him up.

The 2015 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 30.
