Jodi Arias was sentenced on Monday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The Arizona Republic noted that the saga of the convicted murderer came to an end when Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens ordered that she spend the rest of her natural life behind bars.
In 2013, Arias was convicted of the brutal murder of her on-again off-again lover Travis Alexander five years earlier.
As previously reported, a jury failed to come to a unanimous decision last month on whether or not to give her the death penalty. Judge Stephens had the choice of giving the 34-year-old a life sentence or the possibility of parole after 25 years.
During the sentencing hearing, the victim’s family spoke as well as Arias’ mother.
Arias herself also spoke and gave a shocking admission by saying that she now remembered stabbing Alexander. Throughout her trial, Arias denied that she had any recollection of stabbing him saying the she had blacked out and was in a fog.
Legal writer for the Republic Michael Kiefer tweeted that upon leaving the courtroom Alexander’s sister yelled at Arias to “burn in hell.”
Arias’ legal team can appeal her sentence.
