Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has reportedly been released from rehab.
ESPN reports that Manziel has been cleared from the drug and alcohol treatment facility that he entered in late January. Sources close to Manziel said that the former Texas A&M star has been doing well in his treatment.
Manziel checked into rehab after a difficult rookie season in which he spent the majority of on the bench. In the two games he started, Manziel threw no touchdowns and two interceptions before suffering a leg injury. The 2012 Hesiman Trophy winner made headlines off the field for his partying lifestyle which led to him missing an appointment with the team physician after a night of drinking. Browns coach Mike Pettine had said that the team will be ready to help Manziel transition back to football upon his return.
"When [Manziel] is back, it will be full speed ahead for him," Pettine said. "I think he's very anxious at this point. We'll be prepared as we will with every other player. When they get back to town, we're going to coach the heck out of them."
It is expected that Manziel will compete with newly-signed quarterback Josh McCown for the starting job. If anything else, Manziel will hopefully return with a clear mind and his priorities in check.
