Even though he’s got another Paul Blart movie hitting theaters this month, Kevin James must have just figured out that his movie career isn’t quite turning out as well as he hoped. That’s because the former King of Queens star is already plotting a return to television.
James, of course, got his start on television with Queens, which ran from 1998 to 2007. During that run, he got a supporting part in Will Smith’s 2005 romantic comedy Hitch, which also helped boost his career. But his performances as a leading man in comedies were always slammed by critics, and movies like Here Comes The Boom and Zookeeper didn’t exactly light up the box office.
With that in mind, James has signed a deal to star in a new comedy that will be produced by Sony Pictures TV. As part of that deal, James’ Hey Eddie Productions signed a two-year first-look deal with the studio. Sony’s Columbia Pictures also renewed its first-look deal with James’ company. The deals were reported by Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter.
James’ next movie is Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, which no one really asked for. The movie hits theaters on April 17. He can also be heard in Hotel Transylvania 2, which Sony is releasing in September. He also has a role in Chris Columbus’ Pixels with Adam Sandler, which opens in July.
James was nominated for an Emmy in 2006 for King of Queens.
