A Las Vegas high school junior proved what friendship is all about when he asked his best friend, who need was in need of a prom date to their May 2 prom.

Jacob Lescenski asked his best friend, Anthony Martinez, to prom with a red banner carried by three people that read, "You're hella gay, I'm hella str8, but you're like my brother, so be my d8?" E! News reports. Both guys posted pictures of the banners on Instagram and have since become Internet stars and received several supportive messages.

"He's 100 percent straight, I promise, but he's a real man 'cause he has the guts to fulfill his best friend's dream and take him to a dance," Martinez wrote. "I couldn't ask for a better friend."

"Couldn't go to prom with anyone better than this amazing guy who I can call my brother," Lescenski wrote. "Thank you for being you, I love you man."

CNN reports that Lescenski was initially anxious about how people might judge him, but took the risk anyway for his friend.

Lescenski said that all that mattered to him was his friend's happiness and that the two of them had a date to prom.

In a Twitter post Martinez wrote that his favorite part about the whole experience has been the straight guys that said “good job.” “@JacobLescenskii just made a huge impact everywhere,” he wrote.

Martinez and Lescenski also posted an Instagram video to thank their fans.
