Mariah Carey is clarifying the rumors that her new single “Infinity” includes digs at her estranged husband, Nick Cannon.
The rumors started when her No. 1s album, Mariah #1 to Infinity, came out, which includes the single.
In an interview with Extra while kicking off her new residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas this week (it starts May 6), she denied the lyrics were about Cannon.
"Honestly, it's about loving yourself first,” she explained, later adding, “We had fun with the lyrics, but I do that with a lot of songs."
"'Infinity' is like love equals you first. There's a section of the song where it's like a chant – 'You're leaving, you're leaving, you're out the door infinity loving me more and more' – meaning you have to love yourself first, it can't be all about somebody else's thing or their issues, it has to be you and then you can deal with the rest of the things in your life,” she went on to explain.
Carey also addressed those Brett Ratner dating rumors, calling him her “really good friend.”
“Of course there were these rumors of our fabulous love affair, darling," she joked. "I want everyone to know that we're getting married next week, me and Brett forever, and ever, infinity and beyond."
