In an unprecedented move for any of the broadcast networks, NBC announced on Wednesday that it will post all 13 episodes of Aquarius online to stream after the David Duchovny-starring series premiere airs.

The 1960s-set crime drama stars the X-Files star as a detective in southern California investigating the disappearance of a friend’s daughter (Emma Dumont). That case leads him to a head-on collision with Charles Manson (Gethin Anthony). Grey Damon (True Blood) co-stars as Duchovny’s partner.

NBC announced last month that the series will get a summer berth, beginning on Thursday, May 28 at 9 p.m. with a two-hour episode.

In an effort to get extra buzz around the series, NBC will stream all 13 episodes online after the premiere. The episodes will be available on NBC.com, the NBC app and other Video On Demand services.

“With Aquarius we have the opportunity to push some new boundaries to give our audience something no broadcast network has done before,” NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt said in a statement. “We are fully aware how audiences want to consume multiple episodes of new television series faster and at their own discretion, and we’re excited to offer our viewers this same experience since all 13 episodes of this unique show have been produced and are ready to be seen. I appreciate the enthusiasm we’ve gotten from the producers of the show and our partner Marty Adelstein of Tomorrow Studios to launch this series in a new, forward-thinking way.”

To ease advertisers’ concerns that they would lose eyeballs during the subsequent airings, NBC said that it made deals to ensure that the same commercials that will air on TV will be included in the online streams and VOD versions.
