Olivia Munn wasn’t a member of The Daily Show news team long, but she still has some wise advice for Trevor Noah, who will host the show after Jon Stewart leaves.
Noah officially got the job on March 31. Just hours after the news broke, Internet sleuths dug up his old, unfunny and offensive Twitter jokes. Comedy Central later defended him, as did fellow Daily Show correspondent Aasif Mandvi and other comedians.
While attending a Samsung event, Munn also backed Noah up, telling E! News that he should ignore the haters and “just keep going.”
“The biggest thing is that he just goes with his instinct,” Munn told E! News. “He's so naturally funny [and] he's so smart. So I think the biggest thing is for him is to just go with his gut, He's got this far, and they clearly believe in him. So you know, don't let any haters stop you. Just keep going.”
Munn also said that she is really looking forward to seeing what Stewart does next, since he’s leaving The Daily Show sometime this year.
“Of course, you're going to miss that voice every day,” Munn told E!. “But lucky for me I can just email him and be like, ‘Hey, what do you think about this crisis going on?' But it's definitely going to leave a definite hole and hopefully that's where Trevor comes in and creates something really different.”
Since the controversy over his tweets erupted, Noah has defended himself on Twitter as well, writing, “To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn’t land is not a true reflection of my character, nor my evolution as a comedian.”
