Kate Mulgrew of Orange is the New Black fame has revealed her search for the child she gave up for adoption in 1977. She finally reconnected with her in 1999 after over 20 years of searching.

Mulgrew talked about the first phone call she received from her daughter, now 37, while she was at work on Star Trek: Voyager. She was sitting in her trailer when she got the call.

"I remember three questions came from her,” her daughter, Danielle, told People. “The first one was, 'Are you pretty?' And then the second one was, 'Are you happy?' And then the third one was, 'Do you believe in God?' That is Kate in a nutshell."

Mulgrew said she was so “out of it” and doesn’t even remember asked Danielle these questions. “I wasn't thinking, just desperate to keep my daughter on the line,” she said.

The actress, who plays Red on the hit Netflix series, also said she finds it “fascinating that Danielle remembers them so clearly."

Starpulse reports they then met four days later.

Mulgrew outlines her search to find Danielle in her book Born With Teeth.
