Roseanne Barr has revealed in a candid new interview that she is slowly going blind thanks to medical conditions. She also shared her political views, as she is releasing a film about her 2012 presidential campaign.
In an interview with the Daily Beast, Barr was asked why she is a fan of marijuana and she replied, “It’s good medicine, you know.”
“I have macular degeneration and glaucoma, so it’s good for me for that because I have pressure in my eyes,” she explained. “It’s a good medicine for a lot of things.”
When asked if macular degeneration would cause complete blindness, she replied, “Yeah.”
The former Roseanne star said that her doctors could not give her a timetable. It’s really difficult for her, especially since she loves to read.
“It’s something weird. But there are other weird things,” Barr explained. “That one’s harsh, ’cause I read a lot, and then I thought, ‘Well, I guess I could hire somebody to read for me and read to me.’ But I like words and I like looking. You do what you have to do. I just try and enjoy vision as much as possible—y’know, living it up. My dad had it, too.”
Barr was interviewed at the Tribeca Film Festival, where Eric Weinrib’s Roseanne For President! debuted. The film is about her 2012 presidential campaign. Therefore, politics did come up in the Daily Beast interview, which was done just days after Hillary Clinton announced she is running again in 2016.
However, Barr made it clear that she does not support Clinton and would not want her to win.
“She’s the same old s**t. I’d like to see me win,” Barr said. “I don’t see how she can win, but it will be interesting to see how the process goes — although its kind of offensive that the American people for 21 months have to live through the mudslinging that goes on between the two parties, which I think is just a tactic to prevent government from doing anything about any of our problems.”
