Sherri Shepherd has been named the full legal mother of the baby with ex-husband Lamar Sally, who was born via surrogate last August.
The former couple had been battling in court over who’s financially responsible for their child since he was born. Shepherd has reportedly said she was tricked into having a baby with Sally, so she argued she had no responsibility for him.
"I'm glad it's over, but I feel sad what it had to come to. Now I can go back to L.A. and tend to my son,” Sally told People outside of the courtroom on Tuesday after the ruling was reached. Shepherd was not in court.
Sally also told TMZ, “I want her to go on television and apologize the same way that she went on there and accused me of being a gold digger and tricking her into having a baby."
Tuesday’s ruling means Shepherd will be held financially responsible for the child and her signature needs to be placed on the baby’s birth certificate as the legal mother.
Shepherd has made it clear she doesn’t want any ties to the child, who was conceived with Sally’s sperm and a donor’s eggs.
