Sophia Bush’s ex-boyfriend, Google executive Dan Fredinburg, is among several others that died in the Nepal earthquake that triggered a Mt. Everest avalanche Saturday.
Fredinburg, 33, spent the last three weeks scaling Mount Everest, NBC News reports.
News of his death was first announced by U.K.-based Jagged Edge, the group he was traveling with, on their website.
"It is with the greatest sorrow that we report the death of one of our Everest team members, Daniel Fredinburg. Two other team members have non-life threatening injuries, as a result of the avalanche that struck base camp during the earthquake and its aftershocks," the post reads.
Fredinburg’s sister, Megan, also confirmed the news thanking everyone for all the love and support, E! News notes.
"We appreciate all of the love that has been sent our way thus far and know his soul and his spirit will live on in so many of us,” she wrote.
New York Times reports that the death toll for the 7.8 magnitude earthquake has reached more than 1,900, including at least 34 deaths in northern Indiana and 17 deaths on Mount Everest where the earthquake set off.
Fredinburg and Bush began dating in March 2013 and later made an amicable split in February 2014. The two remained friends and the Chicago P.D. star was even the one to let fans know that he was okay after he previously survived an avalanche on Mount Everest in April 2014, according to E! News.
Bush took to Instagram to write a heartfelt message regarding Fredinburg’s death.
"He was one of my favorite human beings on Earth. He was one of the great loves of my life. He was one of my truest friends. He was an incredible brother, a brilliant engineer, and a damn good man. I'm devastated and simultaneously so deeply grateful to have known and loved him, and to have counted him as one of my tribe,” Bush wrote.
