Suge Knight was in court today for a hearing related to robbery charges and it turned out to be far more dramatic than it should have been. First, Knight confirmed that he fired one of his attorneys, then he complained to the judge about being handcuffed to a wheelchair.
Knight is facing robbery charges for an incident with comedian Katt Williams in September 2014, when they allegedly tried to steal a photographer’s camera in Beverly Hills.
During today’s hearing, Knight told Los Angeles Judge Ronald Coen that he did indeed fire attorney David Kenner, notes the Los Angeles Times. Kenner had already filed paperwork, but Coen asked Knight about it. “Kenner is fired,” Knight replied.
Knight was instead represented by attorney Matthew Fletcher, who is representing Knight in the hit-and-run murder case. According to The Daily News, Fletcher doesn’t plan on taking over the robbery case and told Coen that Knight should be able to represent himself.
The former rap music mogul also complained about being chained to wheelchair, which he insisted that he had no need for. Coen said that he was put in a chair because Knight had told authorities that he was paralyzed on one side. Knight insisted that it was just making things work and that he could walk perfectly fine.
“I’m being chained to some type of chair and they’re pushing me…I walked perfectly fine from county jail to the bus and from the bus to here,” Knight said. “It makes matters worse.”
Fletcher compared the treatment to The Silence of The Lambs scene, where Hannibal Lecter is strapped to a stretcher.
Knight will be back in court on May 27 and he is supposed to have a new attorney by then.
The Death Row Records co-founder has been in and out of court since February, following his arrest in the hit-and-run case. He has been charged with the murder of Terry Carter, 55, and the attempted murder of Cle “Bone” Sloan, 51.
In February, he was hospitalized after two court appearances. Just last week, he collapsed during a bail hearing.
