Taylor Swift is sharing some heartbreaking news with her fans: her mom, Andrea, has been diagnosed with cancer.
The “Style” singer didn’t give many details, such as which stage the cancer is in or what kind she has, but she did write in a Tumblr post that her mother wanted her to share the news with fans.
She wrote she asked her mom to get tested for any health issues she might have for Christmas this year, to “ease some worries of mine.” She said her mom felt perfectly healthy and there were “no red flags.”
“The results came in, and I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer,” she wrote. “I’d like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know.”
Swift continued to say her family wants to use this experience to help others so they can detect any health issues early and tackle them head on.
“She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they’ve got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle..Or peace of mind in knowing that they’re healthy and there’s nothing to worry about. She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour," she wrote. "She’s got an important battle to fight.”
