Eric Patrick “Slowhand” Clapton, CBE, was born March 30, 1945, in Surrey, England. He is a highly esteemed British musician and singer/songwriter. By many accounts, he is one of the most influential guitar heroes of all time.
Clapton earned this respect early in his career as lead guitarist for The Yardbirds and John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, and guitarist and singer/songwriter for Cream and Blind Faith. He also played with Delaney and Bonnie & Friends before forming Derek and the Dominos, the band famous for the classic rock song, “Layla.” He began his solo career in the ‘70s, but has continued collaborations with others through the years.
Clapton is the winningest British artist of Grammy awards, having won 17 to date. He has also won the Brit Award. He became the first three-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a member of the Yardbirds in 1992, as a member of Cream in 1993 and as a solo artist in 2000.
