Dozens of Twitter users livestreamed the season five premiere of Game of Thrones through Periscope before the show aired on HBO. These users could now be in trouble following their actions.
TheWrap reported that Periscope is a new social-streaming application. The app was launched to be competition towards Meerkat. Users took this application and streamed the show in real time but with very low quality.
Representatives from Periscope are upset about the use of their application by Thrones fans, Mashable reported. They explained that anyone who had violated the terms of service would have their account shut down or suspended until the case was resolved. The company is looking into the levels of copyright issues, if an account reaches those levels it will be shut down permanently.
CNBC added that Game of Thrones is the most pirated television show of 2015. The show returned for a fifth season on Sunday but the first four episodes of the show had already leaked online.
