Robert Kirkman, creator of the Walking Dead, has signed a first-look deal with Universal.

The deal was between Kirkman and his company, Skybound Entertainment, The Hollywood Reporter added. He is known for being the mastermind behind the Dead graphic novels, which are now a popular series on AMC and for writing The Astounding Wolf-Man, Outcast and Invincible. All of these projects fall under the umbrella of Skybound Entertainment.

Kirkman opened up about his new deal with Universal. "The idea of producing movies that will bear that logo is just unbelievably awesome. We couldn’t find better partners than the team at Universal. I believe this partnership is going to help David and I achieve all the goals we set out to accomplish when we founded Skybound five years ago.”

Universal co-presidents of production Peter Cramer and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum are pleased to welcome Kirkman to the Universal family. "Robert and David have proven themselves to be incredible storytellers in a wide range of mediums, and we are thrilled to be Skybound’s partner in the feature realm. We feel confident that their wealth of ideas and expertise will lead to exciting, provocative films for our slate," explained Kirschenbaum and Cramer in their statement.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Kirkman is currently working on the next season of Dead and the spin-off series. The spin-off is titled Fear The Walking Dead and will be a stand alone series.
