Authorities in Arizona have said that WNBA players Brittney Griner and her fiancée Glory Johnson were arrested on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct Wednesday.

The Arizona Republic noted that Lisa Kutis, a Goodyear police spokeswoman, said the couple was arrested and booked after officers responded to a fight at their home around 4:30 p.m.

When law enforcement arrived both women had injuries. TMZ Sports reported that Griner had some cuts and an apparent bite wound, while Johnson had a bloody lip. The media outlet also said that according to the police report, Griner admitted to officers that they had been fighting for a few days and were having relationship problems.

The pair got engaged last summer and were expected to be married next month.

Griner, 24, is a superstar player in the league. The former Baylor University great plays for the Phoenix Mercury.

"The Mercury organization is aware of an alleged incident involving Brittney Griner,” the team said in a statement Thursday. “We are in the process of gathering additional information and will have no further comment at this time."

Johnson, 24, plays for the Tulsa Shock. That team also released a statement saying it too was aware of the situation and are looking into the matter.
