Authorities have said that they arrested a woman who allegedly filed a false police report against Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor.
ESPN reported that Tuscaloosa police said after the 24-year-woman told officers that she fabricated her story, they arrested her for filing a false report.
"On March 30th, 2015, the female contacted investigators and stated that she wanted to recant her statements about the previous domestic violence incidents and that Taylor did not harm her," a statement from the police department read. "The female was [further] interviewed on March 31st, 2015 and maintained that she had lied about the previous incidents. Based on her statements that she had fabricated the stories investigators charged the female with False Reporting to Law Enforcement."
AL.com noted that accuser recanted her story that led to the arrest of Taylor on Saturday. She told investigators then that a verbal altercation with the football player got physical. Police observed marks on her and arrested Taylor.
The following day, he was released from the Crimson Tide and on Monday, she recanted the statements.
Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit assistant commander Kip Hart said that it is not uncommon for domestic violence victims to recant their stories. Because of that and the visible injuries she had on her, the claims will be reviewed and the investigation remains open.
This is not the first time the defensive man was arrested for domestic violence. In July, he was taken into custody for allegedly striking his girlfriend with a closed fist and choking her. He is facing charges of felony assault and domestic battery for that incident. Those charges, however, are still pending.
