ABC had a busy Thursday night, with executives ordering a whole slew of new shows for the 2015-16 season. They include the highly anticipated new Muppets show, plus the return of The Hangover’s Ken Jeong. In total, there are six new dramas and three comedies.
Starting with the dramas first:
Untitled Pate & Fishburne Project, which was once titled Boom, was written by Josh Pate (Legends) and Rodes Fishburne. It centers on Billy (Chace Crawford) and Cody Lefever (Rebecca Rittenhouse) as a couple who move to North Dakota during the oil boom there. Don Johnson also stars.
The Family, written by Jenna Bans, is about a politician whose son is presumed dead. Decades later, he returns... but is it really him? Joan Allen, Allison Pill, Margot Bingham, Zach Gilford and Liam James are among the stars.
Of Kings and Prophets is a Biblical series by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage. It’s about a king, a prophet and a shepherd, who are all destined to meet. Ray Winstone, Haaz Sleiman, Oliver Rix and Maisie Richardson-Sellers star.
Quatinico is a new FBI series written by Josh Safran. Priyanka Chopra, Dougray Scott, Jake McLaughlin and Aunjanue Ellis are among the ensemble cast.
The Catch is another Shonda Rhimes series and stars Mireille Enos as an investigator who is the victim of fraud. Who conned her? Her fiance. The series was written by Jennifer Schuur.
Wicked City, written by Steven Baigelman, is an ‘80s period drama about a notorious Los Angeles murder case. Adam Rothenberg, Ed Westwick, Taissa Farmiga and Gabriel Luna star.
There are three new shows on the comedy side.
The “more adult” Muppets was picked up. Written by Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory) and Bob Kushell (Anger Management), Jim Henson’s famous characters are returning to the screen in a new show that focuses on their lives and relationships through a documentary-style show.
The Real O’Neals brings Martha Plimpton back to the small screen. She’ll star as the mother of a Catholic family whose lives that a surprising turn. Jay R. Ferguson, Noah Galvin, Matthew Shively and Bebe Wood also star. It was written by David Windsor and Casey Johnson.
Jeong, who just finished Yahoo’s revival of Community, will star in Dr. Ken as a brilliant doctor who doesn’t know how to handle people. His attempts to make good drive everyone crazy. It was written by Jared Stern, Mike O’Connell and Jeong.
