Even though it looked like ABC had its 2015-2016 lineup all set, the network made a late decision to pick up Uncle Buck, a series based on the beloved 1989 John Hughes film.
Development on the project with Universal Television began in October and Mike Epps was cast as the title character. Unlike the film version, which stars the late John Candy, the series will feature an all-African American cast.
Epps will star as a fun-loving uncle whose brother and sister-in-law hired to babysit their three children. His oddball personality might help his family and what he learns from them should help him figure out his own problems.
The rest of the cast features Nia Long, James Lesure, Iman Benson, Sayeed Shahidi and Aalyrah Caldwell. The pilot was written by Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley.
Deadline reports that the series might end up airing during mid-season and will probably be the last show picked up before the network’s upfront presentation for advertisers.
