Adrian Peterson really, really doesn’t want to play for the Minnesota Vikings in 2015, or at least that’s the way he’s making it look. The NFL’s best running back, who only played in one game last year after his child abuse case, still doesn’t want to play for the team and is expected to skip this week’s voluntary organized team activities.
A source told the Pioneer Press that Peterson is skipping out on OTAs and will remain in Texas. He’s already missed spring workouts and could miss OTAs on June 2-4 and June 8-11. If he doesn’t make it to 90 percent of the team’s OTAs and minicamps, he would miss out on a $250,000 bonus.
The Associated Press, also citing an anonymous source, reports that Peterson is still hoping that the Vikings will trade him.
The Vikings have said that they don’t plan on trading or releasing Peterson, despite his well-known wishes to get out of Minnesota. He is still under contract for three more seasons and will make $12.75 million in 2015.
Peterson was charged with child abuse last fall, although he reached a plea deal with prosecutors and avoided jail time. Still, he remained suspended for the rest of the 2014 season.
All eyes in the NFL will be on Minnesota on June 16, when Peterson will have to report to the Vikings’ mandatory minicamp or face fines.
