While ABC can handle four Shonda Rhimes shows, three is one too many Marvel shows to take on. The network has passed on a possible Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD spinoff that would have starred Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood.
News of the project broke in April. The series would have focused on Lance Hunter (Blood) and Mockingbird (Palicki), who joined SHIELD in season two. However, Deadline reported that the project is not moving forward.
There was some concern about taking the two strongest new characters leaving and there was a thought that ABC might not pick it up if both SHIELD and Agent Carter got renewed for the 2015-16 season. Both of those shows were indeed renewed last night.
Marvel and ABC are also developing another series with American Crime’s John Ridley writing. American Crime was also among the shows that got renewed.
You can check out the list of new shows that did get picked up right here. They included a fourth Rhimes-produced series.
