Last night’s Dancing with the Stars finale didn’t just finish with a new mirror ball trophy champion. DWTS host Tom Bergeron introduced former mirror ball winner Alfonso Ribeiro as the new host of ABC’s America’s Funniest Home Videos.
Bergeron announced last year that the 25th season of AFV would be his last. He was the show’s third host, following in the footsteps of Bob Saget and co-hosts Daisy Fuentes & John Fugelsang. Bergeron joined the show in 2001.
“After receiving hundreds of inquiries, stacks of video submissions and a very close audition race, one smile, one funny and sincere delivery became our standout favorite – Alfonso Ribeiro,” AFV creator Vin Di Bona said in a statement. “We look forward to Alfonso leading AFV into the next generation of family friendly viewership.”
AFV is ABC’s longest-running primetime entertainment show and will air this fall in the familiar Sunday, 7 p.m. time slot. It truly is impressive to see that the show has continued to exist, despite the innumerable kicked-in-the-nuts videos that are available on YouTube at any moment.
As for Ribeiro, he won Season 19 of DWTS and got his start on Broadway as a child star in The Tap Dance Kid. However, he is best known for his role opposite Will Smith on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.
