Goalie Andrew Hammond signed a contract extension with the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday.

According to NHL.com, the extension is for three years and $4.05 million. Hammond will make $1.2 million next season, $1.35 million in 2016-17, and $1.5 million in 2017-18. He will count $1.35 million against the Senators salary cap. If a new deal hadn’t been reached, then he would have been eligible for unrestricted free agency this summer.

“Fire up the grills! Excited to be coming back to @Senators for 3 more years!” Hammond said on Twitter.

Hammond, whose nickname is “The Hamburglar”, made his first NHL start in January. He became the Senators starting goalie after Craig Anderson and Robin Lehner suffered injuries. He went 20-1-2 with a 1.79 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage, and led the Senators to the playoffs, according to the Associated Press. The Senators lost to the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the playoffs.

The Senators are expected to trade either Anderson or Lehner before the start of next season now that Hammond is signed.
