CBS has finally put in its series orders for the 2015-2016 television season, sucking out all the surprise for its May 13 upfront presentation to advertisers. Joining Supergirl will be a new Criminal Minds spinoff and series based on Limitless and Rush Hour.
CBS ordered a pilot for the Rush Hour series in January and it is expected to follow the same format as the popular Chris Tucker/Jackie Chan movies. A Hong Kong police officer (John Foo) will be matched with an LAPD officer (Justin Hires), even though he doesn’t want to work with a partner.
Limitless is based on the Bradley Cooper movie of the same name and its pilot was directed by Marc Webb. Jake McDorman plays a man who ends up using a mysterious drug to help solve cases for the FBI.
The Criminal Minds spinoff has been titled Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders and stars Anna Gunn and Gary Sinise as members of a new FBI team that helps Americans in trouble abroad.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Code Black with Marcia Gay Harden was also picked up. It is an ABC Studios medical drama about the busiest ER in the country.
CBS only picked up two new comedies. Ted Quill’s Angel From Hell stars Jane Lynch as a woman who claims to be a guardian angel for Maggie Lawson’s character. However, Lawson can’t figure out if Lynch is really an angel or just crazy.
The other is Justin Adler’s Life in Pieces, which centers on family issues told through the eyes of different family members. The stars include Dianne Wiest, James Brolin, Colin Hanks and Betsy Brandt.
