Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has donated $7.8 million dollars to assist a global charity with its earthquake-relief efforts in Nepal.

Time noted that Ronaldo urged his millions of Facebook and Twitter followers to donate to the cause as well.

He donated the money after the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Nepal last month and killed more than 8,000 people.

On Tuesday, the country was again struck by powerful 7.3 trembler. Dozens are already confirmed dead and the death toll is expected to rise significantly.

Ronaldo is one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, but also one of the most generous.

The Independent reported that he makes about $28 million in endorsements and another $52 million in salary and winnings.

The Real Madrid star has donated to many charities in the past including to Indonesia after the 2004 tsunami. And, just last year, he was asked to donate items to help raise $83,000 for the operation of a 10-month-old baby. Not only did Ronaldo donate items, he also paid for the operation.
