Danielle Brooks, who stars as Taystee in “Orange is the New Black,” will make her Broadway debut in “The Color Purple” alongside Jennifer Hudson and Cynthia Erivo, this November.

According to Variety, Brooks will star as Sofia, one of the three major female characters in the play, with Hudson as Shug and Erivo as Celie. Brooks’ role as Sofia was played by Oprah Winfrey in the film version of the play, who has signed on to be a producer of the revival of the show.

“The Color Purple’s” 2005 production was the first Broadway show Brooks ever saw, which is what made her want to pursue acting.

According to The Wrap, the Julliard graduate is set to lend her voice to the upcoming animated film “Angry Birds,” as well as a role in HBO’s “Girls.”

John Doyle is set to direct “Color Purple,” and his present show “The Visit” is currently a Tony nominee. The original producing team, Scott Sanders, Roy Furman and Winfrey, from the original Broadway production are also set to produce this time around.
