David Lynch and Showtime have resolved their contract dispute and the acclaimed director will work on the Twin Peaks revival as the network originally promised. Indeed, Showtime even announced that there will be more than nine episodes.
Lynch sent a tweet to his 2.4 million “Twitter friends,” noting that he has returned to the Twin Peaks project. “Dear Twitter Friends, the rumors are not what they seem ..... It is !!! Happening again. #TwinPeaks returns on @SHO_Network,” the tweet read.
Showtime president David Nevins later sent a statement to TVLine to confirm the news, writing that Lynch will direct every episode.
“This damn fine cup of coffee from Mark and David tastes more delicious than ever,” Nivens said. “Totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger than we expected. David will direct the whole thing which will total more than the originally announced nine hours. Pre production starts now!”
The Twin Peaks revival was announced in October, with Lynch and co-creator Mark Frost returning. Star Kyle MacLachlan was set to play Agent Cooper once again.
However, in March, there was rumblings that Lynch was in a contract dispute with Showtime over money and that came to a head in April, when Lynch officially said he was walking away.
Well, Lynch, just like Twin Peaks itself, is coming back. Time to cut a slice of cherry pie.
