Ellen Albertini Dow, who may be best remembered as the rapping granny from The Wedding Singer, has passed away at the age of 101.
The Pierce College LAPC Theater Department posted the news on their Facebook page. Dow had been married to Eugene Dow, who founded the department. The late actress was also a theater instructor at Pierce College for musical theater and children’s theater.
ABC News received confirmation of her death from representative Juliet Green, who reported she passed away Monday. Dow was also in the film Wedding Crashers and appeared in television shows including Family Matters and The Golden Girls.
Her last appearance on television was in an episode of New Girl in 2013 in which she played Aunt Ruthie. Her first on-screen credit was for the 1985 film American Drive-In.
Dow received both a Bachelor’s and Master’s with Cornell University and she moved to New York to study before working in Paris with people such as mime Marcel Marcaeu and stage actress Uta Hagen. She was also a drama and dance teacher for 30 years.
